Abstract

The Research focuses on studying the correct origins of the carved lexical units listed in Ibn Faaris’s Dictionary "Maqaayiis Al-Lugha" under the category of words with more than three letters, and analyzing them in light of Transformational Generative Theory. The significance of the topic lies in its discussion of the concept of origins and measures in one of the most important sources, attempting to reinterpret the linguistic heritage from the perspective of Modern Linguistics to explore its depths and reveal its value. The nature of the topic required relying on a Descriptive method. The article concluded with findings such as: some lexical units that Ibn Faaris attributed to trilateral roots through carving in his Dictionary "Maqaayiis Al-Lugha" are attributed by other Linguists to trilateral roots through Phonological rules like Insertion, Delection and Replacement. The Researcher proposed issues that still need further research and study, including examining different Transformational rules through a comparison between Arabic heritage and modern linguistic analysis.
